This is a delightful and spacious, two bedroom stone gîte in an enclosed courtyard. Located in the grounds of a former Cognac distillery, Le Gîte du Portail is approached through grand entrance gates and has its own large, partially shaded garden with extensive views over wonderful open countryside.


This gîte has been carefully renovated and recently modernised to a very high standard, offering spacious accommodation for up to four people. Le Gîte du Portail is surprisingly large inside with thick stone walls, making it beautifully cool in summer and very cosy in the winter.








The living room
On the ground floor is a comfortable fully equipped lounge and dining room.

 

The kitchen
The attractive and practical kitchen with a tiled floor and beamed wooden ceiling offers plenty of storage. A spiral staircase leads to a large upper hallway with access to the bedrooms and the bathrooms. 

The double bedroom
Upstairs are two sizeable bedrooms. The main bedroom is approximately 6m x 5m, with a beamed, vaulted ceiling and has a super king-size bed. This room has an en-suite shower room with hand basin and WC. A feature of this bedroom is a stained glass window, hand-crafted locally in Vinax by an artist who has renovated windows of Salisbury Cathedral in England.

The second bedroom has twin beds. Both rooms are very comfortable and benefit from fitted carpets and rugs.

There is a well appointed modern bathroom with a full size bath, separate shower and hair dryer. Ample hot water is always available.

With the option of efficient gas-fired central heating Le Gîte du Portail is a perfect place to stay at any time of the year.

The garden with well
Opposite Le Gîte du Portail is the spacious garden, which enjoys magnificent mature trees offering plenty of shade and extensive views over open fields. Table, chairs, and parasol are provided. This part of Charente Maritime enjoys an abundance of birdlife.




Comments
We have had a great time! The Gîtes are the biggest and cleanest we have stayed in. They are appointed beautifully. The equipment in the kitchen makes life so much easier. All in all Nick and Chania have thought of everything possible to make our stay as good as it could possibly be. It is an ideal location whether you just want to relax and chill out or venture out to different places each day. There is plenty to do nearby and on site to occupy two young daughters for ages.  Looking forward to returning!!

We have had a lovely time. This is only the second Gîte we have stayed in but we suspect it may have spoiled us for any others. The location is so peaceful and everything so clean and of such a high standard. Nick and Chania both work very hard to make sure everyone enjoys their stay. We hope to be back.

I have had a lovely stay this week, it is a lovely comfortable and friendly Gîte. I have been in the pool every day and I loved it!! I also liked the table tennis and table football they were fun!!  Thank you for making us welcome!

Beautiful Gîte - well appointed with everything you need. Had a lovely couple of weeks in great company. Many a late night at the summer kitchen drinking the local brew, "Pineau". The weather has been great!!! La Rochelle is a good day out, Saintes is another nice town to enjoy, Royan is a good seaside resort, big sandy beach for the kids. A big thank you and as a famous Hollywood actor once said "I'll be back!"

The perfect place for a completely relaxing break, do as much or as little as you please in beautiful surroundings. The gîte is perfect, well appointed comfortable and spacious. The facilities just right, good pool, the games room became a focal point for our boys to meet up with their new found friends.

Nick and Chania are brilliant hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them.  The weekly get together BBQ is a great way to meet the other holiday makers.  The gîte is clean and just like home from home.  We would like to return for a 3rd visit, hopefully to join in the fun on Bastille Day.
